FrontPage Server Extensions installed with a web server allows all FrontPage components (form handlers, all forms, counters, and other features) to operate. FrontPage Server Extensions are contained on the FrontPage 2000 CD-ROM and on the Microsoft Premium CD-ROM. After you install the FrontPage Server Extensions, you will be able to access the Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions Resource Kit to obtain more information about FrontPage Server Extensions. The resource kit is installed in the C:\Program files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\40\serk\1033 folder. You can install FrontPage Server Extensions on your hard drive if you have installed PWS, and you intend to test your web site locally. Use the ADD/REMOVE Software tab in the control Panel and your FrontPage CD-ROM. If you install PWS AFTER you install FrontPage Extensions, you must configure the extensions. FrontPage also installs a server extensions administrative tool that can be used to configure the extensions with PWS when you install the FrontPage Server Extensions. Frontpage Server Extensions are applied to the system on which the web server(s) for a company's Intranet or Internet Web are located. When the extensions are applied, the web server enables the additional features of what becomes known as a frontPage extended web. Each extended web has a root web, which serves as the first or basic level of a web, and subwebs, which are the equivalent of subdirectories beneath a PC's root directory. In subwebs materials can be divided by category or provided for individual teams or departments. Subwebs cannot be created where no root web exists, and only FrontPage 2000 permits the use of nested subwebs, that is, webs contained within subwebs, oriented to a central root web. You must enable FrontPage Server Extensions after the installation. To enable FrontPage Server Extensions, open the TOOLS menu in FrontPage 2000, click PAGE OPTIONS, and the click the COMPATIBILITY TAB. Click the ENABLED WITH MICROSOFT FRONTPAGE SERVER EXTENSIONS check box. Configuration
